I can remember moments spend with my mother as she taught me how to pray. I also remember my father taking my brothers and me to the old-time gospel quintet show. Those were precious moments in which I shall never forget. It was moments like this and words of wisdom shared by family members and the likes that stayed with me when I needed them the most.
The Bible states in Proverbs 22:6 that we must “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” I believe this is truer now then let’s say 10 years ago. Kids today face more within an hour via internet, text and mobile phone then you could ever imagine. I can remember a time when the phone was used to make phone calls period. Now we have smart phones.
However, God has provided a time proven method that keeps pace no matter how quickly technology advances. Deuteronomy 6:7 provides insight about how God does this by instructing parents to, “Impress the word of God upon your children. Talk God’s word when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” We are to impress upon our children a lifestyle of walking with God. Our children should be able look at us and no by our life and example that we are Christians.
Take the time each and everyday to pray with and for your children. Yes, I get it that we lead busy lives. However, what you do today that most people won’t, your kids will have forever what most people don’t.
