Just to be close to you girl
Just for a moment, well just for an hour
Just to be close to you girl
Oh well ah baby aw
You know I’ve been thru so many changes in my life girl
Aw I’ve been up real high where I thought I didn’t need anybody
Aw and then again I’ve been down real low where
There was no one in my life who needed me
Aw and I found that material things I thought had so much value
Aw girl didn’t really have any value at all
There was a lonely man
A man with no direction, with no purpose
With no one to love and no one to love me for, for me
Aw girl then you, then you came into my life
You made my jagged edges smooth
You made my direction so clear and you aw woman
You became my purpose my reason for livin’ girl
You see you’re my heart, you’re soul
You’re my stone inspiration
Baby oh that’s why I’m standin’ here singin’
And opening my arms to you…
There are a few love songs that move me, but only one that moves me to tears. “Just to be close to you” by the Commodores is by far my favorite love song. The raw emotions and declaration of a man’s love for his woman is overwhelming. The expression of gratitude define the very essence of having respect and admiration for the one you love.
When I think of my wife, the words expressed in the song resonate with my deep feelings for my lovely wife. She is my inspiration, my hope, my love and I am so thankful I get to be her husband.
The Bible is a book of many things, but seldom have I heard the Bible described as a book about love. In the first of three series, I will be discussing various segments of the book “Song of Songs.” The series will touch on love, life, hardships and the joys of relationships according God’s perspective.
From the beginning God intended love to be a powerful expression of devotion to one another. Love is more than a feeling, love is the essence of selflessness, patience, kindness and a cause greater than ones self (1 Corinthians 13:7). Love will make you go to the store at 1 am in the morning to buy medicine because your love one isn’t feeling well.
Solomon wrote Song of Songs as a tribute to his bride to affirm the sanctity of marriage and his love for his bride. The power of Solomon’s words is heart-felt in Song of Songs 4:1 “How beautiful you are my darling! Oh, how beautiful!” How wonderful it would be if every husband felt the same about his wife.
Brothers, your wife should be as radiant as the noon day sun when you gaze upon her. Words like, “I love you and you’re beautiful” should be heard from you often and with sincerity. Husbands, the praise of your wife provides a coat of protection for her as she deals with some slick talking wanna-be who has no respect for the sanctity of marriage. Make sure your wife is protected; God has entrusted husbands with the care of His daughters; prove yourselves to be trustworthy.
Some of my favorite Song of Songs scriptures
• Song of Songs 4:7 All beautiful you are my darling, there is no flaw in you.
• Song of Songs 4:9-10 You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace
• Song of Songs 6:4-5 You are beautiful, my darling, as Tirzah, lovely as Jerusalem, majestic as troops with banners. Turn your eyes from me; they overwhelm me.
• Song of Songs 6:10 Who is this that appears like the dawn, fair as the moo, bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession?
