Exodus 14:19-20 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
The Bible gives an incredible account of God’s power and passion for His people in the mist of trouble. True to His word in Exodus 14:14 scripture professes that “The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.” Feeling pressed on all sides, the Lord will fight for you; you need only be still. Facing your Goliath in life, the Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.
On cue from God, the angel of God and the pillar of cloud moved from the front of God’s people to the rear providing a divide between good versus evil. In the same way the God we serve provides a gap between the forces of evil that set themselves up against God’s children.
We can count on the everlasting security of God’s promise to protect and keep His children with assurance from the following scriptures:
- Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from me,” Says the Lord.
- 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
- 2 Samuel 22:3-4 my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
Isn’t it good to know that we serve a God who cares for and listens to our prayers and petition for help? Yes, what an awesome God we serve who is too wonderful to gaze upon yet within reach to save.
My prayer for today
Father we lift up our hands to you in praise and worship. We honor you with our life and devotion to your word. Father Help us to reach out to you when we face the Goliath of life. May our ways become your ways; our thoughts become your thoughts and our lives become a living sacrifice that gives life to the cross.
Father we ask that you stand in the gap to fight our battles as we are still before you. Give us strength and confidence to trust in you in all situations by casting our anxieties upon you for you care for us. In Jesus’ name we pray and ask all these things, amen.
