Dressed and in his right mind

006-jesus-troubled-manLuke 8:34-36 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured.

As I sit writing, my thoughts are all over the place. My mind is leaning in one direction about what to title this lesson, while a tug of war rages about the contend of the lesson. I need Jesus to help me sit for a moment so I may be dressed and in my right mind. Yes, dressed and in my right mind.

Scripture says Legion was out of control and was too strong to be subdued by human force or chains for that matter. He often withdrew to arid places for he was possessed with many demons. What do you do when the thing that has you in bondage controls every aspect of your life? You run to Jesus crying out in a loud voice is what you do.

In Luke 8:28, Legion did the following when he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Legion knew Jesus didn’t happen upon him by accident. He knew contact with Jesus meant one thing. The very things that kept him in bondage would be confronted.

Jesus knew that legions of demons possessed this man’s body and desired to put up a fight to hold on to their claimed prize. However, once we surrender to Jesus that which holds us captive, He is more than able to set us free.

Scripture says the demons asked if Jesus would release them into a herd of pigs which later drown in a body of water. What has taken you captive for what seems like an eternity that you have petitioned Jesus to free you of? I want to encourage you to be honest with whatever has you captive today. Be honest with God about were you truly are.

Forget how your confession to Christ may sound or how ashamed you may feel, for in Jesus there is NO CONDEMNATION (Romans 8:1)! Cry out in a loud voice if you have to saying “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I promise you, He will not only answer, but will restore you to peace, dressed and in your right mind.

My prayer,

Lord we praise and honor your holy name. Thank you for loving us enough to send your son to die for us so that we can be dressed and in our right minds. Thank you for freeing us from the bondage of sin. I pray that the person who is reading this blog today will cry out to you in a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? When they do Lord, please answer and release them from the bondage that seeks to destroy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
