Patience in the process

hourglassExodus 23: 29-30 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.

I remember as a kid living on a farm in Beaufort South Carolina, how my dad systematically planned when and how to plant the crop. He would study the calendar for various moon phases to decide the best season for planting. Then he would budget for fuel, seed, fertilizer and labor.

After all was done, he would begin the process of planting, de-weeding, watering and finally harvesting. This process took place year after year and to be honest, there are steps I have omitted for the sake of time.

Just like the thought and planning my father put into creating a successful harvest, our Father who is God in Heaven plans on a larger scale. Here we see in Exodus 23: 29-30 how God the father is forward thinking in all He does.

First God determined He would not drive out the enemy within a year because this would create chaos within the animal chain. Secondly, God said He would decrease the enemies population on pace with the Israelites increase so they could powerfully take possession of the land.

God is a God of details and forward thinking. He is a God whom a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day (2 Peter 3:8).  He is the God who knew us before we were born, the God who has plans for us; plans to prosper us not to do harm us. He is the Great I Am; He is all-knowing, all-seeing and the God of all places.

We live in a world of instant gratification. We must have it now. Microwavable now! My prayer is to grow in patience during the process. A patience that is deeply rooted in faith, deeply rooted in an all Powerful God who is more than able to work out all matters for His good and perfect will.

  1. Oh wow this is really wonderful! I like the story about your Father planning his harvest. Very interesting. Also one of the things you said is that we weeded the land and prepared the soil. A lot of preparation to make the soil just perfect for planting. Clearing away all of last years harvest and then remnants so that new fertile soil can be readied for the new harvest. I like this a lot what you have shared here. Patience is something I never pray for because as sure as I do I will be tested in that area. I’ve been waiting for 19 years for an answer from God I think one more year is not big deal. You said so much here! I’m sure God will continue to give more meaning as the day goes by! Perfect Monday morning motivation! Have a blessed day!
