Another excellent and wonderful podcast video. Hurt and pain do play a role in forgiveness. Sometimes it takes years for the sting to go away.
I have been able to forgive friends, coworkers and mean bosses because eventually I forgot what happened! So I was no longer angry.
As for family members one has different expectations. You expect your family to love and support you. We all grew up together. But that final betrayal changed everything. Even though I know mentally I should forgive them it wouldn’t be genuine.
It’s no use mentally assenting to forgiveness when in your heart you can’t stand them. I guess that I should feel some guilt, shame or remorse over the split but I don’t. But life goes on.

Thanks. I would say now that I’m indifferent to those family members. I neither hate nor love them.
My own life keeps me busy and I wish them well.
