The difference between empathy and sympathy (Part 2)

Believe it or not, some people don’t KNOW or AWARE of the difference between empathy and sympathy. Empathy is the ability to experience the feelings of another person. It goes beyond sympathy, which is caring and understanding for the suffering of others.

The world is saying, “I DON’T want you to just HEAR what I am saying, but I NEED you to FEEL(shared emotions) what I am saying. I believe that what the world is longing for is someone who can share in their pain, and experience.

Empathy is the ability to experience the feelings of another person. It goes beyond sympathy, which is caring and understanding for the suffering of others. I believe (in the words of Dr. Maya Angelou) everyone has empathy, we just don’t know how to display it.

Join me, as we talk about the difference in the two words. While the world or the hurting appreciates sympathy, I believe that what the world is longing for is someone who can share in their pain, and experience.
