Taught by the Lord

ChildrenIsaiah 54:13 “All your children shall be taught by the LORD, And great shall be the peace of your children.

I believe this is God’s promise to parents as spoken through the prophet Isaiah. Yesterday as I was preparing for another work day, I glanced upon several scripture reminders posted on my closet door. For some reason Isaiah 54:13 stood out that day. Perhaps it’s because I was thinking about and praying for our children.

My wife and I have two adorable special needs boys who are the love of our lives.  As a father, I continuously ask God to give us grace to raise our boys to love and walk in the ways of God. The best way I know how to do this is by providing a living example through my life as a father.

This means leading the household with love and Godliness, treating their mother with respect, honor and love;  treating them with respect, honor  and love. And last but certainly not least, apologizing when I have wronged them. The expression “I APOLOGIZE” coming from a parent to a child is like prayer because it changes things (parents write that one on your hearts).

The promise spoken by Isaiah encouraged me because I realized God has taken care of every concern a parent could ever have regarding the well-being of their children. First the promise states that our children are taught by God who is the greatest teacher. Secondly, the promise ensures our children will have great peace.

All I can say as a parent is thank you God for handling the details of parenting and proving that we are not on this journey alone. What an awesome God we serve who continuously proves himself to be faithful!

My Prayer:

Thank you for your words of promise and encouragement. Thank you for the spirit that guides us through the maze of life. You make all pathways straight and all hearts anew. Help us as parents to surrender our worries to the many promises you give throughout the Bible.

Let us not forsake what you have put before us which is the grace to raise our children. What a gift and honor to be entrusted with minds of clay. Help us to become potters who mole and shape according to your word and will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
